The Harem of the Undying King

 So for a small distraction from historicals and to practice some painting techniques I decided to paint the zombies that came with kickstarter I backed from the 13th Warlock. I wanted to practice highlights for skins and figured zombies would be good because if I messed up they'd still work. The models are a rather adult group of female zombies but where a real treat to paint. They are all 3D prints and some of the artifacts from that process where visible in a few. 

Since I have been recently playing Oathmark which uses units in denominations of 5, and I have 10 of these zombies, it got me thinking. I came up with a name for the unit "The Harem of the Undying King" which I think fits the adult nature of the poses and would go well with an undead army. I think I might field them as Ghouls though.

Here are the individual shots. I am really happy with how they came out. I must confess I rushed the bases a bit just so I could take photos. Will probably go back as add a bit more to them.

Coleman Gets Started

 My 4 year old son Coleman has shown increased interest in painting miniatures, especially after the high praise his 7 year old broth Thomas got. While visiting a local game store I let him pick out a miniature to paint and he picked a D&D brand Giant Squid. He was very focused and determined to paint it all in one sitting and so I let him. All I did was get his paints ready and offer advice and tips to help him accomplish his vision. He was so excited to finish it that he wanted to start on another right away. I rummaged around in my box of unpainted monsters and got him a Reaper Bones monster. He also painted the entire thing in 1 day, again all on his own with only minimum assistance. 

He is very quick to correct you if you call it anything other then a squid. He chose to paint it based off the colors of the example on the packaging. 

This one he calls the Angler Death Monster. He chose all the colors and did all the application himself.

Thomas's Monster

 Over Labor Day Weekend I got some painting in with my son Thomas (age 6). Every time he goes to a hobby store with me I let him pick out a reaper bones mini for him to paint up however he wants. Recently he has acquired several monsters and this is the first one he has finished painting. I am extremely proud of him. He had a very good attitude the whole time and only got a bit discouraged when he got paint were he didn't intend to. I helped talk him through it by showing him the miniatures I was working on and pointed out some of the mistakes I had made. Once he was finished painting it I put a wash on it (the only help I physically did). The end result is perfect. He really wanted to make a scary looking monster and he nailed it. I need to get him his own case for storing his models in.

Fantasy Terrain

Other stuff I recently finished painting from my 3D printed backlog is this amazing set of raised terrain by terrain4print. I also finished up a test set up ruins and a summoning circle. All 3 from Thingivers.

The raised sections I printed (and their are many more available)  can be reconfigured in loads of cool ways. All these pictures are taken on my 2x2 skirmish board.

 The steps are big enough for most minis on 25mm bases to stand.

 Here it is all together with the summoning circle and walls. more individual photos below.

 I chose a glowing green and I'm pretty happy with the effect. My only regret is it gives a very ominous feel to it which might not always be the case.

 The wall bits come in lots of individual parts. I chose to glue some together in a way that would give options to put them together.
